    Recent trends in digital text forensics and its evaluation

    The final publication is available at Springer via http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-40802-1_28This paper outlines the concepts and achievements of our evaluation lab on digital text forensics, PAN 13, which called for original research and development on plagiarism detection, author identification, and author profiling. We present a standardized evaluation framework for each of the three tasks and discuss the evaluation results of the altogether 58 submitted contributions. For the first time, instead of accepting the output of software runs, we collected the softwares themselves and run them on a computer cluster at our site. As evaluation and experimentation platform we use TIRA, which is being developed at the Webis Group in Weimar. TIRA can handle large-scale software submissions by means of virtualization, sandboxed execution, tailored unit testing, and staged submission.     Multi-ethnic GWAS and fine-mapping of glycaemic traits identify novel loci in the PAGE Study

    Aims/hypothesis: Type 2 diabetes is a growing global public health challenge. Investigating quantitative traits, including fasting glucose, fasting insulin and HbA1c, that serve as early markers of type 2 diabetes progression may lead to a deeper understanding of the genetic aetiology of type 2 diabetes development. Previous genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified over 500 loci associated with type 2 diabetes, glycaemic traits and insulin-related traits. However, most of these findings were based only on populations of European ancestry. To address this research gap, we examined the genetic basis of fasting glucose, fasting insulin and HbA1c in participants of the diverse Population Architecture using Genomics and Epidemiology (PAGE) Study. Methods: We conducted a GWAS of fasting glucose (n = 52,267), fasting insulin (n = 48,395) and HbA1c (n = 23,357) in participants without diabetes from the diverse PAGE Study (23% self-reported African American, 46% Hispanic/Latino, 40% European, 4% Asian, 3% Native Hawaiian, 0.8% Native American), performing transethnic and population-specific GWAS meta-analyses, followed by fine-mapping to identify and characterise novel loci and independent secondary signals in known loci. Results: Four novel associations were identified (p < 5 × 10−9), including three loci associated with fasting insulin, and a novel, low-frequency African American-specific locus associated with fasting glucose. Additionally, seven secondary signals were identified, including novel independent secondary signals for fasting glucose at the known GCK locus and for fasting insulin at the known PPP1R3B locus in transethnic meta-analysis. Conclusions/interpretation: Our findings provide new insights into the genetic architecture of glycaemic traits and highlight the continued importance of conducting genetic studies in diverse populations.     Transferring Vocal Expression of F0 Contour Using Singing Voice Synthesizer

    Abstract. A system for transferring vocal expressions separately from singing voices with accompaniment to singing voice synthesizers is de-scribed. The expressions appear as uctuations in the fundamental fre-quency contour of the singing voice, such as vibrato, glissando, and kobushi. The fundamental frequency contour of the singing voice is estimated us-ing the subharmonic summation in a limited frequency range and aligned temporally to chromatic pitch sequence. Each expression is transcribed and parameterized in accordance with designed rules. Finally, the ex-pressions are transferred to given scores on the singing voice synthesizer. Experiments demonstrated that the proposed system can transfer the vocal expressions while retaining singer&apos;s individuality on two singing voice synthesizers: the Vocaloid and the CeVIO.

    Swinging triples: Bridging jazz performance datasets using linked data

    The jazz performance metadata prototype JazzCats:Jazz Collection of Aggregated Triples uses Linked Data to bridge four discrete jazz music datasets: Linked Jazz, with prosopographical and interpersonal information about musicians; the Weimar Jazz Database (WJazzD), containing musicological metadata; a discography of the jazz standard Body&Soul; and J-DISC, a fourth independent but complementary and extensive discographic project. Through the use of custom-built ontological structures the data, originally stored in various different information structures, has been converted to RDF and merged together in a single triplestore. The result is a new digital resource that can be used to support and enrich scholarship and research in musicology and performance studies
